How You Can Benefit From Hatha Yoga
Hatha
Yoga, which will be taught in the Yoga Course and Workshops, is
the Yoga of Physical well being. It includes Breathing exercises
and breath control, and various selected postures that stretch and
flex the spine, muscles, the nerves and massage the internal organs,
promoting proper digestion and elimination.
Hatha Yoga also regulates the involuntary
processes of respiration, blood circulation, and the metabolism.
They affect the working of all the glands and organs, as well as
the nervous system and the mind. These ancient Yoga exercises are
a scientific art applied to the anatomy of the body. They tend to
normalize the functions of the entire organism. You will experience
stimulation and a sense of well being rather than fatigue after
performing these exercises properly.
It's possible to increase your range
of motion significantly by including these gentle stretching Hatha
Yoga exercises into your daily routine. The increase in mobility
and flexibility that is gained will naturally aid in the prevention
of athletic injuries, and only enhance every other pursuit of physical
activity be it Walking, Jogging, Aerobics, Weight- Lifting, etc.
You will also improve your concentration
and coordination skills, and your endurance levels will increase
noticeably. In the 1970's Hatha Yoga became very popular among Tennis
and Golf enthusiasts. A mind body link or connection is definitely
developed as one focuses intently on the awareness of the breath
and the graceful movements of Asana's. By assuming unique positions
(Postures) that are not normally assumed throughout your daily routines
of activity, you will be able to improve your posture, release tightness,
tensions, and improve your circulatory system thus reducing your
stress levels and rejuvenating yourself completely with a renewed
vitality and sense of well being.
"Posture affects and moderates
every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production.
"Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis, and autonomic regulation
are intimately connected with posture."

Doctors have referred patients who
have asthma, emphysema, arthritis, and stiff backs and those with
stress filled lives to these Yoga classes. There was a Waukesha
County Employee who saw a 20- point drop in her blood pressure.
And the Paramedic who lost 12 pounds and saw her blood pressure
drop 40-points in just 30 days! One student an Orthopedic Surgeon
with a ruptured disk was so pleased with the results of Yoga that
he arranged a class for the Physical Therapists at his hospital.
Cardiologist and Author Dr. Dean Ornish in his best selling book
Reversing Heart Disease, highly recommends Yoga, and has developed
a Yoga program for heart patients, which is used by many hospitals
throughout the Country.
One of Hatha Yoga's greatest benefits,
improved blood circulation works wonders, affecting the vital glands,
metabolic processes, and enhanced immune system function. Students
come away with a renewed vitality. It is possible to promote and
maintain lifelong flexibility through only 20 minutes a day!
It has been very fulfilling for me,
seeing people from all walks of life benefiting from what yoga has
to offer. I often hear comments at the end of a class that usually
sound like, "I really needed this today, my back or neck or
headache feels so much better!" That is because Yoga's transforming
effects have allowed the mental, emotional, and physical tensions
to dissolve and fall away. The relaxation techniques of deep breathing,
and meditation and the gentle stretching exercises that are taught
have the power to change the direction of the entire day. I'm convinced
that is why there are so many repeat students taking the courses.
AGES 7 TO 75 PLUS
You will be happy to know that there are no age limitations that
will hinder you from practicing or receiving the desired results.
I have had several students in there 80's (oldest at 87 ). However,
if you have a medical impairment, consult your physician before
joining a course! Many retired people are joining the classes. Many
of these individuals have not exercised in years and found Yoga
ideal for getting themselves limber and back into shape again.
The wonderful thing about Hatha Yoga
is that even if your not able to assume the pose completely, you
will never the less still receive benefits, even though you have
not mastered the pose. No one is expected to master a pose or anything
else the first time you try it! PATIENCE and PRACTICE are the keys
to anything.
My Instructor for my Yoga Teachers
Certification was Ann Karg. She began practicing Hatha Yoga at the
age of 60 due to severe arthritis of her spine. When I met her five
years later she was so adept at the routines that she put a lot
of teenage students to shame.
These classes are for both children
and adults, they are invaluable for promoting concentration and
coordination skills, as well as developing poise, and building self-confidence,
for this reason I encourage children to join the course. Children
must be accompanied by an adult and must be at least 7 years old.
It's something positive families can do together.
Some of you may be a bit intimidated
by Hatha Yoga exercises after seeing a photo of someone on a book
cover who has mastered an advanced pose. Relax! This course is for
beginners. You must learn to walk before you run. To keep you motivated
I offer a lending library containing books, tapes, and videos. Come
join us and see what you have been missing!
INSURANCE
REIMBURSEMENT
Some of the policies of Blue Cross
will refund $50.00 each year to those who complete the course. Humana
Insurance will reimburse you $200.00 a year. So check out your own
insurance - you may have a very similar benefit!
DISCOVER THE ART OF MEDITATION
Hatha Yoga is a system of physical
postures, or Asanas, whose higher purpose is to purify the body,
giving one awareness and control over it's internal states and rendering
it fit for meditation. The poet W. H. Auden called our age "the
age of anxiety". You can relieve that anxiety through the deep
sense of calmness, the poise, the peace, the vigor and strength,
and sense of overall well-being that are yours through the regular
practice of Hatha Yoga and Meditation.
Meditation has proven to be invaluable,
benefiting it's practitioners on every level of their being, physically,
mentally, and spiritually. Research has shown that Meditation rests
and rejuvenates the heart lowering high blood pressure. Research
at Cornell University on the benefits of Meditation on the immune
system were quite startling! They discovered that by meditating
for as little as just three times a week, the number of killer cells
that fight off diseases actually doubles!
It is possible to cultivate a greater
awareness of one's self and your relationship with the world around
you by scientifically stilling the body and the mind's restless
thoughts through the art of Meditation. Meditation is not an escape
from the world and your responsibilities, but rather a preparation
for them. It will help you develop an inner peace in such a restless
world.
Meditation will prove to be one of
the most effective methods in the world for managing and reducing
stress. By meditating deeply for even five minutes at the beginning
of your day, you can set the tone or direction of the entire day.
You are taking control (the first step of managing stress) of your
thoughts, your life. You can then become a Master of life, not a
Victim of life.
The affects of Meditation are difficult
to describe. The great Yoga Master Paramahansa Yogananda, author
of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, said "Meditation
is like trying to describe the taste of an orange. You could try
explaining that taste for a hundred years, but they wouldn't understand
until they tasted the orange for themselves." Meditation
is something that must be experienced personally. I will end each
class with five minutes of Meditation instruction.
"When the mind is calm, how
quickly, how smoothly,
how beautifully you will perceive everything."
- Paramahansa Yogananda
Although Yoga has a Spiritual aspect,
Yoga is not a religion , but a universal way of life. It will only
enhance any other Spiritual Path you may be following.
Yoga offers you the tools to realize
optimum health, but these tools are useless if not used. No one
is going to accomplish your goals for you. You and only You must
develop the habit of practice. Set aside the time to promote and
maintain life-long flexibility, mental calmness, and inner peace.
I hope you and your guests can
join us for The Yoga Course or a Yoga Workshop being presented.
