Introduction
We
all want to get the most out of
life; living each day to its fullest.
But life can often become a drudgery
if we lose touch with our lives
and their special meaning. Very
often we just aren't felling very
well. We're run down, our vitality
is low and we may even find ourselves
feeling a bit depressed and emotionally
drained. These symptoms are the
result of too many stresses in our
daily life. We continue in the same
old patterns of living, doing little
or nothing to change the way we
react to these outside forces that
wear us down. When things get rough
we find ourselves thinking, "I
need to relax and unwind."
"I need a vacation." "I
just need to get away from it all."
"I'm just getting too burnt
out."
When
the long awaited vacation finally
arrives, how is it usually spent?
Running from here to there trying
to entertain ourselves. We find
that by the end of the vacation,
when it's time to get back into
our daily routines, we have not
truly relaxed or renewed ourselves;
but rather we are even more run
down than before we started.
So
what is the answer? Mental health
professionals advise us not to depend
upon our annual vacation as a cure-all
that will put our lives in order
and put us back on the right track.
They do recognize the importance
of "getting away from it all,"
but suggest rather that we take
several "mini-vacations"
each year to get away from our old
routines and environment to reduce
our stress levels and renew ourselves.
It is not possible or affordable
for everyone to get away every couple
of months for a weekend away when
we need it. "Relaxing With
Nature" is an effective alternative.
What I have produced through audio
means will allow you to escape mentally,
transcending your stressful environment
for a little while anytime you wish,
when you need to. This way you will
not only get away from it all, experiencing
the relaxing sounds of Nature, but
you will also realize some of the
deepest states of relaxation of
the body and mind. A renewal of
the SELF!
The
idea to develop this illustrated
booklet, and especially the cassette
tape, of these carefully selected
methods for reducing stress and
promoting helath came about through
my desire to provide individuals
with some constructive, effective
methods for reducing bodily tensions
and managing stress in a pleasant
way. The countless requests from
students throughout the many years
I have been involved with instructing
the Hath Yoga exercise convinced
me of the need to tape these methods
for their benefit. These students
have been from all walks of life.
Most of them in very stressful occupations
such as school teachers, nurses,
high school and college students,
police officers, businessmen, as
well as working mothers and housewives.
They all seem to share two things
in common: a limited amount of time
and a fast-paced lifestyle, which
is a definite contributor to stress;
and the same symptoms we associate
with too much stress, such as low
vitality, fitgue, poor blood circulation,
high blood pressure, tense tight
muscles, mental restlessness, nervousness,
and insomnia, attributing to irritability
and moodiness, anxiety and even
varying degrees of depression.
The
students were quite amazed of the
benefits received as a result of
their efforts and discipline while
enrolled in the weekly sessions
I offered. It had often been suggested
that a tape as an aid, in their
home practice, would encourage the
self discipline that had been established
in the group sessions. My intention
was to produce a simple easy-to-follow
tape and booklet. I feel I have
accomplished that goal with "Relaxing
with Nature".
Most
people are impatient. They want
immediate results without spending
much time obtaining them. I feel
you can receive immediate effective
results, if you study the booklet,
so that your practice is done correctly,
and then just simply practice the
easy-to-follow instructions on the
tape. By the end of the tape you
will have experienced the desired
effect; and with each successive
practice, the effects will be greater
due to your improvement in concentration,
performance and discipline that
is provided by using the tape.
